Well, this has been another difficult week for the good old USA! On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, we witnessed the political assignation of 31-year-old Charlie Kirk, who was co-founder of Turning Point USA, a non-profit organization that advocates for conservative Christian values on more than 3,500 high school and university campuses across the U.S. The core mission of the organization is to educate students to promote Christian values, freedom, free markets, and conservative government policies. Kirk was extremely popular among the nation’s youth and was said to be a political activist who had a significant impact on the election of President Donald Trump last year.
According to Turning Point USA’s website, https://tpusa.com, Charlie Kirk’s movement includes Turning Point Education, which seeks to reclaim and revive the education of our nation’s youth, and to restore God as the foundation of education. The organization has thousands of local chapters on high school and college campuses and arranges for conservative speaking tours. Another part of the movement is TPUSA Faith, which exists to unite the Christian Church around sound doctrine to engage, equip, and empower the American Church with tools to counter falsehoods in our society, and to illuminate the link between faith and God-given liberty.
Charlie Kirk was known for encouraging respectful debate with students who hold opposing views at his “Prove Me Wrong” events at college campuses around the country. He was holding a “Prove Me Wrong” event at Utah Valley University in Orem, UT, which is where he was murdered on Wednesday. A sniper shot him in broad daylight from a few hundred yards away. His alleged killer has been apprehended and will likely be charged early next week. Early speculation is that the prosecution will seek the death penalty for the 22-year-old suspect.
Charlie Kirk’s death is truly an American tragedy and a perpetration of evil. He is survived by his wife Erika, a three-year-old daughter, and a one-year-old son. Erika appeared on television on Friday night and vowed to continue Charlie’s work. Erika warned those who accomplished this evil act that they “…have no idea the fire you ignited within this wife…” and “…the cries of this widow will echo around the world like a battle cry.” Erika also quoted Romans 8:28 “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to [His] purpose.”
God has a heart for the widow, and cares about her. The God-given spirit of the widow is extraordinarily strong.
After announcing the arrest of the suspect, Utah Governor Spencer Cox addressed the political differences that have led to the assassination of Kirk. He denounced political violence and urged Americans to choose a different path. He asked: “Do we escalate or find an off ramp?”
These are dark days for our country. The bullets found during the investigation were inscribed with the words: “Fascist, catch this!” and other WWII references to Nazism. It is sadly ironic that a man who championed freedom and liberty was accused of being a fascist before he was brutally murdered. It is hard to fathom the degree of anger and hatred it takes to plan this murder and pull the trigger to execute it, yet a 22-year-old was able to pull it off and execute a man who was witnessing for Jesus to the youth of our nation. Charlie Kirk, in my mind, was a martyr for the Gospel.
Earlier in the week, a young Ukrainian woman was stabbed to death on a train in New York City. Kirk’s assassination kicked that story off the news cycle. I hate to say this, but I am sure another crime will grab our attention next week as the Kirk story subsides.
As Christians, in our sadness, we must resist anger and pray instead that God will use these tragedies for good. Let us pray that Charlie Kirk’s death will spark a spiritual revival in this country that begins with the young people with whom Charlie was engaged. Pray that Erika will be able continue God’s work as she also ministers to her children.
As for the Governor, I know his heart was right, but there is only one off ramp from this darkness, destruction, and death. That off ramp is Jesus Christ. Only those who accept Christ in their heart can see the Light of Life. Jesus is coming again to give us our off ramp. I pray that many are touched by Charlie Kirk’s death and turn to the Lord for salvation.
Here are a few scriptures I hope will minister to you. I was deeply saddened by this assassination of a young husband and father who was trying to do the Lord’s work. When darkness surrounds us, the light of God’s word is a lamp unto our feet.
Matthew 24 (Jesus Speaking):
9 “Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations on account of My name.
10 “And at that time many will fall away and will deliver up one another and hate one another.
11 “And many false prophets will arise, and will mislead many.
12 “And because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold.
13 “But the one who endures to the end, he shall be saved.
14 “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a witness to all the nations, and then the end shall come.
Ephesians 5:
15 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men, but as wise,
16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil.
17 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
Galatians 5:
1 ¶ It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.
Isaiah 55:
6 ¶ Seek the LORD while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near.
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; And let him return to the LORD, And He will have compassion on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.
8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Neither are your ways My ways,” declares the LORD.
9 “For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.
10 “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth, And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
11 So shall My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding [in the matter] for which I sent it.
John 1:
1 ¶ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
3 All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.
4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 ¶ And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 1:
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
1st Peter 3:
14 But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness, [you are] blessed. AND DO NOT FEAR THEIR INTIMIDATION, AND DO NOT BE TROUBLED,
15 but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always [being] ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;
16 ¶ and keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.
2nd Timothy 4:
1 ¶ I solemnly charge [you] in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom:
2 preach the word; be ready in season [and] out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but [wanting] to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires;
4 and will turn away their ears from the truth, and will turn aside to myths.
5 But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
Let us pray for those who seek the off ramp that the Rapture offers us. If you have not yet received Jesus in your heart, repeat this prayer with me.
Father God, I acknowledge before You that I am a sinner not worthy of eternal salvation. For this reason, I ask Jesus into my heart today, and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord of my life. I believe with all my heart that You raised Him from the dead for the forgiveness of my sins. Thank You, Father, that I am saved for all eternity by grace, and not by my works.
Jesus, I ask you to send the Holy Spirit to change me, to crucify my flesh, to speak into my spirit, and to lead me into all truth. I believe all that is written in Your word, and I pray You will help me to walk in love. I forgive all who have hurt me, and I ask Your help in walking in forgiveness from this day forth. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
